Personally I do not want to be a king. The way of kings and queens is a lonely, thankless way too often to be so desired. And the power that comes with it, corrupting and soul destroying too often.
Yet the stories of kings and queens are fascinating... for old and young just about anywhere. J. Ellen Ross has a fine, intuitive grasp of and insight to what life is for a once forgotten queen like Leisha and a once spymaster like Zaraki in this medieval setting. That, though, is what makes their story come alive and vivid in the minds of readers. Maybe even awakening a yearning for the romance and splendour and even adventure of yesteryear when forgetting that that during that time nothing was more or less complicated than now. In fact, things were rather harrowing.
But is damn good to touch on such dreams and in the hands of J. Ellen Ross the Tavaeren way becomes a magical fairy tale page after page. A rare accomplishment. Enjoy!
Lovely writing, so excited to read the next one! Excellent job bridging the gap between the two books. Couple editing mistakes but nothing major.
I can't say enough positive things about the writing, the storyline, and the luxurious choice of words. J. Ellen Ross truly has a gift of prose and should continue writing. Perhaps fulltime.
